‘as pearl cat catches rain’ by Afric McGlinchey

air draws cloud
to land

on street in handfuls
and cobbles sing;

each whispered drop spells
helter-skelter pin-head,

in a dream-extending glimmer
as each living creature lives

one life and a similar;
sleep goes waking itself,

charms happenstance
and this: the catcall sings

a metronome
to other times and places
