‘I’m concentrating on an image of thirteen grey geese ...’ by Manuela Moser

A collage of postcards taped to a white wall, featuring a horse, a butterfly, a house, and handwriting.

I’m concentrating on an image of thirteen grey geese pecking at the autumn
leaves in a garden up the street; on a postcard that reads at midnight meet me at
the other lake
; on the ghost that appeared like a shadow of a star somewhere
overhead; on Clementine saying it’s cold still and the air is bright with it which
is almost the last thing she says to me; on variations of experience;
on whether it is a matter of taste or subversion that we are collected
here tonight; on rural panoramas; on the spirit of the thing; on having
no trouble in feeling emotions; on the last time Clementine watches a film
and turns to me and says it appeals to me even though I know it’s a story,
there’s sadness, sentiment, artificiality
; on wheat and steak; centred; grace.
