‘On/Off’ by Anna D’Alton

The room’s breath is yellow
and held in its mouth

A bulb blinking, an infant
with a squint in his eye

All the candles bob
small-mouthed, humming

                 –

The Out floods in,
rushing dark licked blue

Bright pinched to black,
every spark blown cool

Bits of moon, loosening,
wash themselves on the floor
