‘Ways of Being’ by Marian Kilcoyne

Holding tendrils of lemon balm in one hand,
snipped from the mother ship, I think of him.
Hopper & his Nighthawks.
Fathoming the connection over stunted minutes,
I bed the herb in, pressing, insisting.
Placing the pot on the floor inside my vitric cube,
I raise my arms, press against triple glass
and in one balletic move, pass through to the
other side.
