Gustav Parker Hibbett wins the 2025 John Pollard International Poetry Prize
We’re overjoyed that Gustav Parker Hibbett has been announced as the winner of the John Pollard International Poetry Prize for their amazing collection High Jump as Icarus Story! Parker received their prize last night at a special event in Trinity College Dublin.
The prize is valued at €10,000 and is awarded annually for an outstanding debut collection of poetry in the English language. It’s the seventh year of the prize, and the previous winners are Patrick James Errington, Victoria Adukwei Bulley, Gail McConnell, Diane Louie, Isabel Galleymore, and Hannah Sullivan.
Director of TCD’s Oscar Wilde Centre, Eoin McNamee, said of High Jump: ‘It is a collection of remarkable range and in their own words, unlikely magic, the poet as Icarus falling through selves or rising up to meet them. At once exalted and humble, this is work of the highest order.’
